ART IN FLOWERS
Author Tuấn Việt Floristry is very important because it is a psychological form of method that defines our feelings and thoughts. Flowers arrangement is very simple in a sense that one can attach a flower on a certain color of their dress to express their skills and creativity.For example, if a pink rose is to press on to one's chest pocket, it is a simply method of flower arrangement; however, the rose will be more elegant and stand out if it is pinched on a yellow color dress. Indeed, the same expression of this elegant rose will show on any white dress because of its domain color, pink. The white is a friendly color it can get along with any color around them. The flower arrangement is not always based on skill and experience but it is based on an individual creation, therefore anyone can create his or her expresion easily.
The method of arranging flowers is similar to that of arranging your case displays on a window by size and color of the objects. It is important to remember small objects are place in the front of the case for easily view and large objects in the back. The color shoud blend in, stand out, or match to sooth a viewer's eyes. For example, a rose will look more attractive if the baby breaths are added around the rose stem.
The important technique when arranging flowers is to know how to hide away some unattractive area in the bundle, and the opposite way how to show the attractiveness. It is a method of adding other extravagant flowers or leaves arroud that unsightly part. If the handle of the bundle show more stems than leaves, add more leaves or flowers. As oppose, take out some leaves or flower if it is too crowded. The main point of this method is to mix and match the colors, hide away unattractive part of the bundle to bring out the best masterpiece. It is the same in beauty pageant show, each individual competitor have a unique beauty that when they all come together, they create a hear touching show for millions watch. That is the same technique in arranging flowers
Floristry in arranging flowers is a piece of art that intertwine with our lives. It allows an individual to express his or her feelings by showing it out in a form of art rather than speak out loud. The more you learn about its technique, the more valuable knowledge you will gain when look at a particular bundle. One you have learned about the techniques, it will stay with you and never loose its values.
In the meantime, arranging flowers and dancing are very much in common. When we hear music, our fingers automatically tap along the beat. Just like children, they will sway their bodies around when music filled the room, but with a little guidance, the swaying can turn into eye-catching and breath-taking choreographic. Just like in arranging flowers, a little technique can turn some stem of flowers into a masterpiece of work. "Both of these skills come from congenial skill or come from birth"
A- Techning in arranging flowers:
1- Cleaning:
Before arranging begins, you first have to know how to clean and chip the flowers. Peels off unwanted petals, leaves, thorns.....ect
2- "Boiled" flower:
This method is to freshen up wilted flowers or days old flowers so to keep the color from fading away. Because chemicals are to invole in this method, it is rarely in used.
Attention: The method of arranging fake flowers such as nylon or silk flowers requires the same technique and creation. Only that is does not requrie being vaterd or soaked.
3- Picking out flowers:
It is important for an individual in picking out flowers. It is mostly based on his or her feelings in choosing that particular flowers. Some people might like a particular flower while the other do not. It is once again depending on the individial's mood. First of all, in picking out flowers, you need to know how to blend the bundle you have to chosen so the finish touch will bring out a soften touch of all flowers in used. It is similar when dressing up; dressing in black will make a person look thinner as dressing in vertical lines will makes a person look taller, the improper views makes some good look in purpose. For example, most of the times, baby breath is to use as fillers. It is for the last touch up to bring out the elegant of the flowers. Yet, touch up fillers does not always be baby breath, other flowers are also use. Sometimes, leaves and stems can also bring out the elegant of the flowers. The main point in picking out flowers is to be able to blend it in with the rest of the floswers. This skill can be tricky, but a creative person can turn the simplest flower into an elegant piece of art. It is base on creativity, without creativity, even if you can have the world most beautiful and most expensive flowers; it will eventually come out to be another ordinary bundle.
4- Created the foundation "Center-Piece"
As mentioned earlier, arranging flowers is a form of art. This form of art is solely base on the center-piece. The center-piece maintains all the leaves and stems created the center-piece called fillers. For beginners, fillers are very important. It is the part which brings out the most when viewing it. It's depend if the color blend in together to create a "Background" for the main flowers. The main flowers such as the eye-catching ones, the one you want people to see first are called main flowers, The main flowers is the last piece you want to put in. Just as dressing, after you dress up, then jewels will be the final touch up. Most of the time, when given an opportunity, an amateur will first apply the main flowers in vase and then everything comes after. This is not, how a professional florist arranges; thay do it the opposite way. The first arrange the center-piece till satisfaction then lastly, the main flowers. This can be arranged repeatedly till the florist is satisfy with his or her work then she or he will move on to the next step.
5- Color mixture and blend in:
It is very important when comes to mixture of colors and blend in together in arranging flowers. It is the same as looking at an oil painting portrait. The color is blended in to create textures. For examlpe, blue and yellow makes green, more blue we got darker green, more yellow we got lighter green. Red and yellow makes brown. Red and bue makes purple. White and red makes pink......etc.
Attention: It is best to stand five feet away when looking at your arrangement technique. and then continue.
6- Levels and Bundle methods:
Before arranging the flowers in the vase, you have to decide on which styles you would like the flowers to come out. Would you like it to come out as bundle up in the bigs bushes or you would like it to stack in level of flowers. It would be so much easier if person set a particular style before arranging everything together. This is similar to cooking. Before cooking a particular meal, the chef have to pepare all he ingredients. It is just that simple.
To levels out the bundle of flowers, it is a little harder than arrange everything in a bundle. The trickiest part is to arrange each level, heigh, and size at a time so each step have its own elegant sense when looking at it. Baby breath is highly recommended here because it will help bring out the artistic in each level. We are looking at artistic and creativity here, we are not look at the value price of the flower.
7- Principal:
* In arranging flowers, the bigger flowers are lower than the small ones.
* Buds should be higher than bloom flowers.
* Baby breath used as fillers should always be lower than the main flowers.
* Arrange the flowers that each and individual flower will show its special elegant in comparison with
the rest of the flowers.
* Avoid loosen bundles meaning being seen through because it devalues the bundle as if it's in poverty
such as in needs of more flowers.
* Spread out and blend in the colors of the flowers. Avoid having too many similar colors in one spot.
* The blossoms are always in front of leaves or higher in all plants and trees, therefore when arranging
flowers, it should be the same characteristic.It is important to remember all the points here because
these are points base in the judgment of your creativity
8- The position in viewing the flowers:
a/ One sided:
To arrange your flowers this way, you first have to draw out triangular shape. Using the triangle shape, arrange all flowers facing on front and have all the leaves and the others in the back. These types of flowers are usually position against the wall.
b/ In the corner:
It is based on the 90 degree of your coners and arranges the flowers as the space of your corners allows you to have.
c/ Near and far sight: For flowers that are far away, usually bigger flowers are in use, small one will do no any good because usually it is not viewable. For near sight, any flowers will be nice.
9- International arrangement:
The Japanese or the Europe and American styles of arranging flowers are some what similar in the view of art. The Japanese usually use very little flowers when comes to floristry but sometime use very expensive and beautiful vase. Therefore, the vase will bring out its art work. The Europe and American often uses only one particular of flowers when it comes to their floristry. One dozen of roses will makes up a bundle of flowers.
B- Critique or Appraisal:
When critiquing a vase of flowers, you can compare it to a painting on the board. Critiquing is not to be compared the values of it but can only compare the aesthetic point of view. It is based on the creativity. It can never be compare as a monetary value or as in price because this will affect the aesthetic point of view in your judgment. This is not an art class teaching students how to criticize on others arranging their flowers but for you to acknowledge the comparison between good and bad looking arrangements. This is very important because you will be able to critique on your own vase of flowers that you will be arranged at the end of this class, and by this, you will be able to understand more about art. And know how to recognize what different between flowers in art and flowers in commercial.
A florist in a store can arrange approximately up ten to twenty vases of flowers a day. He or she might be using the same frame to arrange it, same technique as every day, not concentrated at the time, not feeling, doing several vases and training to others at the same time, or all flowers and leaves are in the arrangement order, then afterward the vases will either ut in a special refrigerator or deliver out. However, this is the biggest mistakes of all in art. That is not creativity in art a florist is taught, that is just a simple task of putting flowers together for no reasons or motives. Even a child can do that task after got a simple training of specialization. Indeed, it is a business. Just like in a car dealer, a row of new Honda Accord is there, but the customers will try to point out "the best" one. The example is similar to the flowers in the refrigerator in store, the identical vases of flowers are in there, not knowing anything about creativity of art, the amateurs will think it looks beautiful, as oppose, you will know the different. You will be able to see there were no aesthetic value and liveliness in it. As if in painting, some painting cost millions of dollars while others only worth nothing, the junk. Therefore, when you are standing on the art point of view, you will be able to cast out your judgment easily. A beautiful vase of flowers has to be creative, arrange with your emotions, have a point, and flow with your soul.
Overall, floristry is base on creativity and in their class. Only adding a sterm of flower or taking it away can change the looks of the vase of flowers completely. It will either add more beauty to it or loose the beauty of it. The colors, lighting, creativity, its point.....etc..can also affect the beauty of the flowers. Althought, it might not sounds as easy as it looks, but with hard work and your willingness in learning art, you can overcome this class. GOOD LUCK.

- One hour and half for practice on flowers
- Half hour the teacher checks, explain and appraisal
- The last hour arangement a vase of flowers for the student oneself brings home
